The crash, which happened at approximately noon, occurred when a strong crosswind caused the gyrocopter to travel off the runway, according to the Tomball Police Department.

Neither pilot Keith Bitz nor tactical flight officer Danny Arriaga were injured in the crash. The extent of damage to the gyrocopter is not yet known, the department said.

Gyrocopter Down: Brundee, New South Wales

A man has been killed in a gyrocopter crash on the New South Wales south coast.

The aircraft was flying over the south coast town of Brundee, between Nowra and Greenwell Point, when it came down about 10:00am AEDT.

Senior Constable Sally Wenborne from the Nowra Police says the male pilot was the only person on board.

"About 10:00am we had a small helicopter - a gyrocopter - which landed heavily in a paddock on a private property just near Brundee," she said.

"We can confirm that we've got one deceased male."

His family is yet to be notified.

Detectives are at the scene trying to determine the circumstances and cause of the crash.

      Cavalon Down: Germany

A Cavalon autogyro has crashed at Mannheim Airport in Germany.

      The damaged autogyro

The aircraft crashed immediately after takeoff in an area of scrub close to the runway. The 44-year-old pilot from Luxembourg, who was alone in the autogyro, was not seriously injured, however, as a precaution was taken to Mannheim hospital for examination.

Mannheim Airport was closed for a short time immediately following the accident.
