Beriev Be-200 21512 as seen at Geledzhik seaplane base in Russia on 6th September 2012 (Photo: Vasiliy Koba)

Russia's Beriev Be-200 Altair seajet seen climbing out of the Black Sea at Geledzhik.

        Some Altair info:

Since 2012 the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has stationed a Be-200 in Serbia each summer at Niš Constantine the Great Airport to assist in firefighting operations.

In January 2015 a Be-200 was dispatched by Russia to assist in search and recovery operations following the loss of Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501 in the Java Sea.

On 20th October 2015 two Be-200's were used by the Indonesian government to fight forest fires in Sumatra.

In August 2016 two Be-200 aircraft were sent to Portugal after being asked for help in extinguishing forest fires. Four days later it was reported that thanks to the work of these aircraft the fires were extinguished directly saving the settlements of Castro Laboreiro with a population of 1,000 and Viaden de Baixo which is home to some 15 farms. The Be-200's were also able to preserve the Peneda-Gerês National Park from the fire.

At the 2016 Zhuhai Airshow in China, the Chinese government purchased 4 Be-200's.

India is currently considering the purchase of 6 Be-200's for naval operations.
