Columbia Commission Dedicated Military MRO Facility

Columbia Helicopters, Inc., a member of the American Helicopter Services And Aerial Firefighting Association (AHSAFA), said it has opened a new facility which will be totally focused on the maintenance, repair and overhaul of military helicopters.

The 16,000 square foot building, located at the company´s headquarters and maintenance complex at Aurora (Oregon) State Airport, will be capable of handling up to three maintenance lines of CH 47 Chinook helicopters simultaneously. The twin-rotor, CH 47 is a popular military workhorse, used by the US Army and military organizations worldwide. Columbia Helicopters is a specialist in CH 47 maintenance.

Operational since August 1, the building, which houses the new military maintenance facility, was built in 1996 to maintain the company´s ground support equipment. According to Paul Leach, Columbia Helicopters Director of Military Maintenance, the planning began last year to repurpose the structure in anticipation of growing contract maintenance business from international CH 47 operators, through the US Foreign Military Sales program. As an example, a complete interior and exterior refurbishment, airframe and engine overhaul for three Royal Moroccan Air Force CH 47-Ds is currently in progress at the facility, under a USD6m contract.

    Heli-One Poland Completes AS322 G-Check

Heli-One Poland recently completed its first G-Check inspection, of a Super Puma AS322L aircraft, for CHC Helicopter, Heli-One’s parent company and now is extending that service to other operators.

Heli-One is the world’s largest independent provider of helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

Heli-One Poland are expanding their services

“Operators are using an increasing number of heavy helicopters for a broad range of applications – offshore transportation, search-and-rescue services, police and military work, firefighting and more,” said Anthony DiNota, Heli-One’s vice president, Commercial.

“That puts a premium on assuring safe, reliable, long-term operation of these aircraft, and the G-Check and other services Heli-One offers in Poland and Norway are among very few options for advanced MRO capabilities available to operators of heavy-class helicopters who are based in the Middle East and Europe.”

The G-Check, repainting and other modifications of the CHC aircraft by Heli-One’s Rzeszow team were completed at the new customized, 65,000 square-foot hangar here. Heli-One had been operating from a temporary facility in Rzeszow since February 2013.

The new facility has a maintenance hangar which can accommodate up to six large airframes, along with office and shop space.

“Heli-One has completed more than 50 modifications on S-76 aircraft since we started supporting this platform,” said Anthony DiNota, vice president, Commercial Group, Heli-One. “In the process we have distinguished ourselves as an MRO leader on that airframe, consistently demonstrating our ability to deliver innovative solutions and reduce turnaround times.”
