Syrian helicopter gunships sweept the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal Monday shorly after warplanes fired at least eight rockets. No casualties were reported.

Security sources told The Daily Star that the raid, which took place around 10 a.m., targeted the Hammouda-Zaarour-Wadi Kabir triangle at the far end of Arsal.

Syrian Helicopter Gunships Strike Refugees Near Jordan Border Killing At Least 7

Two activist groups say an attack by Syrian helicopter gunships has targeted refugees near the Jordanian border, killing at least seven people.

Both groups say the helicopters attacked shortly after midnight on Tuesday near the village of Shajara.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says 12 people were killed, including nine children and teenagers. The Local Coordination Committees put the death toll at seven and said there were four children among those killed.

This photo provided by the anti-government activist group Aleppo Media Center (AMC), which has been authenticated based on its contents and other AP reporting, shows smoke rising from a Syrian government forces airstrike in Aleppo, Syria, Tuesday, June 17, 2014. A car bomb exploded in eastern Syria near the border with Iraq on Tuesday, killing many people, including a local rebel commander, opposition activists said

The disparate casualty figures, common in the immediate aftermath of attacks, could not immediately be reconciled.

Syrian troops and rebels have been battling each other for months in the southern province of Daraa, which borders Jordan.

The conflict in Syria, which erupted in March 2011, has killed more than 160,000 people so far, according to activists.

Information emanating from Syria is less than clear and so there is (as yet) no certain date as to when this rocket attack on a landed Mi-8/17 took place. The video has only recently been uploaded. The attack reportedly took place at Taftanaz Air Force base near the town of Idlib:

          Syrian Air Force Killing Civilians

Ten children and five women have been killed in Syrian government air strikes in the northern province of Aleppo, a monitoring group said Friday.

The children, aged from four to 10, and women were killed Thursday "in barrel bomb strikes by regime helicopters on a home and public hall in the village of Tal Qarrah in the north of Aleppo," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The bombing also destroyed civilian property and wounded several people, some of them critically, the Britain-based Observatory added.

President Bashar al-Assad's air force has carried out near-daily strikes against areas under rebel control in the northern province since last December, killing several hundred people, mostly civilians.

Rights groups have repeatedly criticised the use of barrel bombs, which they say fail to discriminate between civilian and military targets.

          Impact from helicopter-deployed barrel bombs

In July, Human Rights Watch accused the regime of defying a UN Security Council resolution ordering all sides in Syria's war to stop indiscriminate attacks.

          Barrel bomb profile

Syria's multi-front war began as a peaceful movement demanding democratic change, but morphed into an all-out civil war after Assad's regime unleashed a brutal crackdown against dissent.

More than 180,000 people have been killed since March 2011, and nearly half the population have fled their homes.
